Janice Drake CRNA Humanitarian Award Application

Deadline:  Closed
This award provides monetary assistance to CRNAs who wish to volunteer and provide anesthesia, education, and training in needy areas of the United States or overseas in developing countries. Read more

John F. Garde Researcher of the Year Application
Deadline:  Closed

This award is presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the practice of nurse anesthesia through clinical research. Nominees must be CRNAs who currently are or have been active in anesthesia research, and can be nominated by any AANA member. Read more.

Rita L. LeBlanc Philanthropist of the Year
Deadline:  Closed

This award is presented to an individual who has gone beyond the call of duty as a supporter of the AANA Foundation by donating time, talent, and direct financial support. The recipient demonstrates a strong philanthropic spirit, and his or her actions motivate others to give of themselves. Read more.

Advocate of the Year Award Application
Deadline:  Closed

This award is presented to an AANA Foundation Advocate for outstanding commitment to the nurse anesthesia profession through individual support to the AANA Foundation and also encouragement of others to do the same. Read more.

CRNA Opportunities

"State of the Science" Poster Presentation
An opportunity for CRNAs and nurse anesthesia students to present their research findings and innovative educational approaches through poster presentations at the Annual Congress and Assembly of Didactic and Clinical Educators (formerly Assembly of School Faculty). Research, literature reviews, and innovative, creative techniques in anesthesia are appropriate topics. NOTE: If you are not a member of the AANA, please email foundation@aana.com for instructions about non-member submission and the $150 application fee.

Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Fellowship 
One of the goals of the AANA Foundation is to support new and seasoned investigators in nurse anesthesia through fellowships, post doctoral fellowships, and grants. Programs are designed to develop researchers in nurse anesthesia. 

General Research Grants
The General Research application is for General Research Grants. There are two cycles for the general grant application: The Fall application closes November 1, and the Spring application closes May 1.

Open Submission Research Grant
The Open Submission Application is for Veterans Administration and Office Based Grants, and the Art Zwerling Grant (research or education in wellness, pain management, and peer assistance/substance use disorder), and may be submitted at any time.

Board of Trustees Nominations
Members are allowed to self-nominate or nominate other members. NOTE: Criteria and requirements are different for CRNAs vs SRNAs.
 
Doctoral Mentorship Program
Deadline:  Rolling Submission

This program is designed to encourage researchers to build a body of CRNA research. Members of the program are eligible to see the contact information of all participants. Download Application

Discoveries of Distinction 
Deadline:  Open Submission

The AANA Foundation, in cooperation with the AANA NewsBulletin staff, has designated a section of the NewsBulletin to research. This section is designated to give readers a very concise summary of research studies conducted by CRNAs and student nurse anesthetists. Discoveries of Distinction

Student Opportunities

Student Scholarships and Program Verification Form
Closed

Scholarships are available to all nurse anesthesia students who are AANA student members and currently enrolled in an accredited nurse anesthesia program. Students must be in good standing within the attended program, and meet the specific scholarship requirements outlined in the application. Applicants must have completed at least six months of nurse anesthesia classes by March 1, 2020.

Dean Hayden Student Research Scholarship 
Deadline: April 1

This student research scholarship is open to students meeting the following criteria:

  1. Nurse anesthesia student in good academic standing.
  2. Member of the AANA.

Program Administrator's Outstanding Student Awards
Deadline:  Open Submission

The Program Administrator's Outstanding Student Awards are presented to a senior nurse anesthesia student in an accredited nurse anesthesia program.

The Student Research Project Award, established in 1999, recognizes the student's work in research and commitment to the profession of nurse anesthesia to advance the art and science of anesthesiology.

The Student Scholarly Project Award, established in 2016, recognizes the student’s scholarly impactful work through evidence based projects that advance anesthesia care.

Student Emergency Educational Scholarship Program
Deadline:  Open Submission

The Student Emergency Educational Scholarship Program is intended to support student nurse anesthetists during times of financial hardship and natural disaster.

Board of Trustees Nominations - Student Member
Members are allowed to self-nominate or nominate other members. There is a call for Student Trustee nominations every odd calendar year. NOTE: Criteria and requirements are different for CRNAs vs SRNAs. 

Student Advocate Application
Deadline: Spring Application - Mar 30 | Fall Application - Oct 31

To identify students at 40-50 nurse anesthesia programs—one per state where possible—to work with Board of Trustees and staff to continue to create a connection, show value, foster member engagement, and build relationships between the AANA Foundation and students in his/her program.
