Welcome to AANA Foundation’s Resource Center – where the Foundation increases capacity for CRNAs/nurse anesthesiologists to conduct rigorous research and evidence-based practice. This Center equips CRNAs/nurse anesthesiologists with essential tools to enhance scholarship, drive evidence-based practice, and disseminate high-impact research findings. By investing in CRNA development, we aim to enhance funding success for grant proposals submitted to AANA Foundation, generate insightful abstract submissions to AANA-sponsored conferences, and foster impactful manuscript submissions to the AANA Journal and beyond.
There are four types of resources available through the AANA Foundation Resource Center.
1. Consultation
Consultants offer short-term support to meet immediate research needs of CRNA Principal Investigators (PIs). Consultation may be requested for the following areas: evidence-based practice project design, research study design, human subjects/IRB, statistical analysis, scientific writing for presentations and publication, scientific writing for grant submissions, or other support. It is expected that applicants will receive no more than 5 hours of consultation that will be financially supported by AANA Foundation.
2. Mentorship
Mentors offer guidance and support to CRNAs to facilitate research engagement, skill-building, and scholarship. Mentorship is expected to be longer term than consultation, with the timeline depending on scope and need, and provide more general support and skill development in areas such as research program development, grant writing, and scientific publication. There may also be opportunities to match mentees with Foundation-sponsored Research Interest Groups, when feasible and applicable.
3. Financial Support for Publication
Funding support is available to CRNAs/nurse anesthesiologists and residents to reimburse publication expenses that further open access to research and evidence-based practice in nurse anesthesiology. A funding amount of up to $3,000 may be requested. Confirmation of manuscript acceptance for publication is expected. Acceptance of the manuscript for publication does not guarantee funding.
If you are interested in serving as a consultant to meet Principal Investigator needs, please contact foundation@aana.com to learn more about needs, opportunities, and contracting procedures.
4. Online Resources
Free online resources are available to support you in developing strong grant applications and poster submissions to AANA Foundation, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance.
Nurse Anesthesia Investigators Manual: IRB Requirements for AANA Foundation-Supported Projects This manual provides practical guidance to assist applicants to grant programs and poster presentation opportunities in evaluating whether their proposed activities require IRB review. The manual outlines regulatory principles, clarifies key definitions, presents decision support tools and case studies, and describes documentation requirements.
IRB Screening Tool This interactive screening tool supports investigators in applying human subjects regulations to their projects in a stepped decision-making format.
