Education Opportunities for Students

Anesthesia College Bowl at Annual Congress

Due to the AANA Annual Congress being converted to a virtual experience, the Anesthesia College Bowl cannot proceed as usual.  Plans are in the works to hold a virtual College Bowl, and further information will be posted here as it becomes available.

Student Mentoring Program at Assembly of Didactic and Clinical Educators (ADCE)

This mentoring program consists of a one-day mentoring experience at the February Assembly of Didactic and Clinical Educators for students who are interested in becoming nurse anesthesia educators. Students are mentored by experienced CRNA educators other than their own faculty.

  • Only one student who has been recommended by their program director is accepted from each nurse anesthesia program.
  • The application process opens in Fall 2020.

The submission process will open in early 2021.

Student Excellence Award

Program administrators may nominate one student for this award annually. Nominees must show evidence of professional promise, have a record of extracurricular activities or other contributions to the college or community, and demonstrate consistent excellent performance in the clinical setting for at least two semesters. The winner is selected by the Education Committee and recognized during the Student Luncheon at the AANA Annual Congress.

The nomination process will open in early 2021.

Student Representative to the Education Committee

The AANA Education Committee supports the professional development of nurse anesthesia didactic and clinical educators and students.  Primary activities of the committee include planning the Assembly of Didactic and Clinical Educators (ADCE) meetings and the Student Session at Annual Congress.  The committee also hosts the Student Luncheon and Anesthesia College Bowl at Annual Congress.

The committee includes a student representative, elected annually, who serves for one year.  This student functions as an information source for students and enhances communication between the student body and the committee.  In addition to participating in the above activities, the student representative facilitates the AANAConnect SRNA Community, contributes content to the AANA for SRNAs Facebook page, and writes the Student News column for the AANA NewsBulletin.

The student representative is elected by the students attending the AANA Annual Congress. The student representative participates in Education Committee meetings and conference calls. Refer to the application for complete details. Note that your expected graduation date must be August 2021 or thereafter. The submission process will re-open in early 2021.
