AANA Foundation strives to ensure the support of high-quality research, evidence-based practice, and education projects; scholarships; and poster sessions. The AANA Foundation Reviewer Corps makes AANA Foundation programs possible.
The Reviewer Corps is a group of eligible experts with relevant experience who volunteer their time to engage in peer review of grants, scholarships, and poster submissions. Members are solicited from the CRNA/nurse anesthesiologist community as well as from other fields related to anesthesia, health services, and health policy. The Foundation gives preference to PhD- and DNP/DNAP- prepared CRNAs that are AANA members; however, non-CRNA experts that hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., nursing, public health, health policy, neuroscience, social sciences) are also encouraged to serve.
The Reviewer Corps is multidisciplinary, with a strong focus on expertise in nurse anesthesiology, evidence-based practice, research methods and data analysis (including approaches used across basic, clinical, and implementation science research), education principles, and dissemination. All members are approved by the Research and Scholarly Activities Committee of the Foundation Board of Trustees.
Experience receiving grants and/or reviewing grant programs is preferred. Recipients of AANA grants are strongly encouraged to volunteer for the Reviewer Corps. Members are expected to commit to grant reviews for at least 2 years. Members can continue to serve on the Corps indefinitely if they are in good standing (e.g., able to conduct reviews periodically, meet review commitments).
Reviewing for the Foundation is a great way to support the future of the profession, learn about different approaches to research and evidence-based practice in nurse anesthesia, and illustrate your commitment to service. Time commitment varies, but reviewers generally commit between 2 to 10 hours per program cycle.
