AANA Public Statement from Jeff Molter, MSN, MBA, CRNA, President of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA)

January 28, 2026

“AANA is aware of the online reports that a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) made threats against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

We are deeply troubled by these events, and the individual who recently made public comments bringing our profession into disrepute is no longer a member of the AANA.

Our training is intended to provide safe care and heal patients. AANA has taken immediate action on this matter consistent with our policies and commitment to patient safety, professionalism and advancing public trust.

CRNAs/nurse anesthesiologists are advanced practice clinicians trained and privileged to provide safe and high-quality anesthesia and pain management to all patients. The field of nurse anesthesiology is in the business of saving lives. Doing harm, especially calls to use our professional knowledge to harm others, is antithetical to our very profession and downright unacceptable.

AANA remains committed to safety, accountability, professionalism, and a respectful community.”
