# Press release December 18, 2025 Rosemont, Ill. – The American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) will present Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Carrie Bowman Dalley, PhD, MS, CRNA, FAANA with the Didactic Instructor of the Year Award during its top educator event, the 2026 EDGE Conference, February 4-7, in Louisville, Kentucky. The Didactic Instructor of the Year Award was established in 1991 to recognize individuals who have made a significant contribution to the teaching of Registered Resident Nurse Anesthetists (RRNAs), also known as student registered nurse anesthetists, in the classroom. The award recognizes the individual’s commitment to the profession of nurse anesthesiology and to the advancement of educational standards that further the art and science of anesthesiology and result in high-quality patient care. Bowman Dalley is the program director and an associate professor in the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program in the Berkley School of Nursing at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. A member of the nurse anesthesia faculty since 2006, she previously served as the assistant program director, outcomes and teaching director, and research director. She is the course director of “Anesthesia Pharmacology,” “Advanced Pharmacology,” and serves as the first and second reader for several DNAP Scholarly Projects. According to one of her colleagues, “Dr. Bowman Dalley has an effortless way of challenging her students to expand their understanding of complex concepts, while supporting and encouraging the process of learning.” In recognition of her outstanding teaching methods and her creativity as an educator, Bowman Dalley received the Georgetown Department of Nursing Innovation in Teaching Award in 2007, following her first year as a faculty member. Georgetown again honored her excellence in teaching with its Faculty Achievement in Education Award in 2015. During the transition of Georgetown University’s nurse anesthesia program to a doctoral degree program, Bowman Dalley developed and implemented the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) program pharmacology curriculum and refined the DNAP scholarly project course sequence, streamlining the process for students to improve their achievement levels through courses that were innovative in their approach to design, instruction and assessment. “I am extremely honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award. I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to teach the next generation of CRNAs,” said Bowman Dalley. According to one of her students, Bowman Dalley’s innovative approach to education “continues to set the standard for educators due to her passion for anesthesia education, personal connection with students, and individualized approach to teaching challenging topics in a clear and effective manner.” A colleague remarks that she provides “caring and individualized attention to the needs of each student, distinct respect for their circumstances and concerns with appropriate appreciation for their gifts and insights.” Beyond her commitment to the classroom, Bowman Dalley’s dedication to the nurse anesthesiology profession is evident through her active leadership. In addition to her role as program director and associate professor of the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program, she serves on the AANA Journal Editorial Panel and served as vice chair of the Georgetown University School of Nursing Executive Faculty from 2022-2024. She was inducted as a fellow of the AANA in 2025 and presents regularly on pharmacology- based topics at the state and national level. Bowman Dalley earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacology degree and her Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.
