Bill is a seasoned association executive with over two decades of experience in organizational leadership. He excels at developing strong relationships with volunteer leaders, staff, and constituents in complex national healthcare associations, having previously served as the CEO of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, CTO at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and CIO at the American Psychiatric Association. Bill leads a staff of over 130 professionals at AANA who work to advance, support, and protect nurse anesthesiology. His formal education includes a bachelor’s degree in information systems management and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland.
David is a CPA with over 30 years of broad-based senior-level experience in both domestic & international operations and merger & acquisition activities. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration with a focus in Entrepreneurship from DePaul University. David has led organizations in several industries, including sales and distribution; international manufacturing; government and not-for-profit management and compliance; and professional services focusing on strategy development, policy development & implementation, and process improvements. David is a valued leader who brings extensive experience in accounting & finance, treasury, IT management, and operations management to the Association
With a passion for cultivating corporate culture and fostering employee development, Ann leads AANA’s Human Resources team and oversees several strategic initiatives at the Association. Ann is a certified experiential educator with over 30 years of experience in the non-profit sector. She earned her law degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Law, a Management Information Systems Certificate from the University of Chicago, and an undergraduate degree in organizational communication from Loyola University.
Eric O’Connor brings over 20 years of experience in strategic leadership, specializing in accelerating revenue growth through innovation and digital transformation. With a proven track record of starting and scaling businesses, Eric excels at crafting and executing strategies that drive transformative results while cultivating high-performance teams prioritizing creativity and data-driven decision-making. Combining visionary thinking with a rigorous focus on operational efficiency, Eric is adept at identifying new market opportunities, optimizing product and service offerings, and guiding organizations through change to achieve sustainable growth. Eric holds a Bachelor of Science and Business Administration in marketing from Drake University and a Master of Business Administration from the Quantic School of Business & Technology.
John is responsible for the team that underwrites medical malpractice insurance for AANA members. Before joining AANA, John was head of insurance underwriting for a top 10 med mal carrier, and was Chief Underwriting Officer for the leading US travel insurer. John has also served in senior strategy consulting roles at McKinsey & Co, KPMG, and his firm. John’s not-for-profit experience includes serving 6 years on the Executive Board of VCEE, which focuses on improving Economics education for K-12 students, serving as a corporate officer of an insurance not-for-profit, and consulting several insurance not-for-profit companies. John is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School and graduated from the University of Chicago with a BA (with General Honors) in Economics.
Dr. Shayne Hauglum brings extensive leadership and research experience to the AANA. Before joining the association, Dr. Hauglum served as a clinical associate professor at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Sciences and founded White Mountain Anesthesia, PLLC, in North Conway, New Hampshire. He was an AANA Foundation trustee from 2021 to 2024, holding roles as research chair and Executive Committee member from 2023 to 2024. Dr. Hauglum has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on simulation, pain management, and the use of ultrasound technology in education. He earned his bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix, a master’s degree in nurse anesthesia from the University of New England, and a doctorate in nursing from the University of Miami.
As Chief Science and Practice Officer at the AANA, Dr. Hauglum leads teams in research, quality, professional practice, education, professional development, and scholarly publications, including the AANA Journal and the Fellows Program. This role helps drive strategic vision while promoting collaboration and fostering innovation to advance, support, and protect nurse anesthesiology.
Ingrida Lusis is the Chief Advocacy Officer for the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology and has over 25 years of experience developing and implementing effective legislative and regulatory strategies at the state and federal levels. She is also passionate about aggressive communications strategies that push the advocacy envelope. She is strongly committed to ensuring access to safe and effective health care and has worked as a lobbyist/strategist for non-MD healthcare associations for most of her career. In addition, Mrs. Lusis enjoys mentoring and working to empower her staff to take chances and learn from the outcomes of those risks. Ingrida is recognized by her peers as a change agent who has broken down silos to enhance collaboration both within an organization and with external stakeholders. Amy Sherwood is a driven and creative Certified Association Executive (CAE) with 20 years of progressive experience leading professional healthcare societies and trade organizations. Amy is passionate about implementing best practices, continuous improvements, and creating member value. As Chief Membership Officer of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology, she is responsible for developing and executing strategies to support AANA’s state associations, their leadership, and viability as well as AANA’s overall membership. Amy is an MBA candidate at Northern Illinois University and is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, American College of Healthcare Executives, and Association Forum. She is a 2022 Association Forum Inspiring Leader Awardee and 2014 Association Forum and USAE Forty Under 40 Award recipient.
Dr. Young (John) Yauger is the current Chief Executive Officer of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology Foundation. He recently retired from the US Army after almost 25 years of active military service. His assignments in the military included Executive Director of TriService Nursing Research Program, Assistant Professor and Deputy Research Director in the US Army Graduate Program in Anesthesia Nursing, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, critical care nurse, and medical surgical nurse. He deployed 3 times to combat, most recently in 2018, where he conducted golden hour surgical team operations for the Special Operations Task Force in Afghanistan. Academically, Dr. Yauger earned his neuroscience PhD and Masters in Nursing from the Department of Defense’s, Uniformed Services University. As an assistant professor and researcher, Dr. Yauger taught biochemistry, leadership, and principles of nurse anesthesia. His research interests include combat nursing, resuscitation, anesthesia, traumatic brain injury, innovative technology, and neuro-inflammation.
