CRNAs are required to show “[s]uccessful completion of a nationally accredited graduate or post-graduate APRN education program that prepares nurses to perform as nurse anesthetists….” [Arkansas State Board of Nursing Regulations, Chapter Four, Section II]
Out-of-State Applicants: “Applicants for advanced practice licensure by endorsement shall have met the educational and certification requirements set forth in Arkansas State Board of Nursing Rules and Regulations at the time of their initial licensure as an advanced practice registered nurse in another jurisdiction.” [Arkansas State Board of Nursing Regulations, Chapter Four, Section II]
The Nurse Practice Act of Arkansas does not prohibit “[t]he administration of anesthetics under the supervision, but not necessarily in the presence of, a licensed physician, dentist or other person lawfully entitled to order anesthesia by a graduate nurse anesthetist awaiting certification results while holding a temporary permit ….” [Arkansas Code Ann., sec. 17-87-103(7)]
A temporary permit may be issued to a graduate nurse anesthetist who meets certain educational criteria and who has been accepted by the certifying body to sit for the first national certification examination for which he or she is eligible. The temporary permit expires upon notification to the graduate nurse anesthetist of the results of the examination. [Arkansas Code Ann., sec. 17-87-307(c)(1) and (2)
