As we move into 2019 National CRNA Week, I would like to take the opportunity say thank you for everything you do for our patients. You increase access to care in many communities across America. You care for people in their most vulnerable moment, providing safe, high-quality access to essential healthcare every breath, every beat, every second!

In this upcoming week, Randy Moore, John Hanlon and I will be traveling to the NBCRNA Board meeting to discuss recertification topics. We anticipate a healthy discussion.

I want to take a moment to thank Vanderbilt University Medical Center for inviting me to come and speak at their Grand Rounds this past week. It was a pleasure to spend time with the CRNAs on campus—they do some extraordinary work at Vanderbilt University!

I want to thank John Shields, CRNA, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, for seeking me out and having a critical discussion on ultrasound skills and the feasibility of developing a certification. As we move forward in this profession, I agree with John wholeheartedly that ultrasound is quickly becoming an expected skill set in regional anesthesia and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). Jonathan Kline, CRNA, has also reached out to me inquiring about helping with a workshop on POCUS and regional anesthesia. Our bench is deep with CRNA ultrasound educators. I want to ask you, would you be interested in a certificate or certification in ultrasonography? Please share your thoughts with me at president@aana.com.
