Former AANA President Patrick Downey to Receive Special Recognition
Patrick Downey, CRNA, is to receive an AANA Special Recognition Award during the AANA Annual Banquet at the 2018 Annual Congress in Boston on Tuesday, September 25.
This Special Recognition Award is being presented by the AANA Board of Directors as thanks for Downey’s significant contributions to the professional growth of current and future nurse anesthetists in the areas of leadership and mentoring
Downey, a former AANA President (1983-1984), realized that taking a personal interest in students and CRNAs alike seemed to awaken the emerging leaders that the nurse anesthesia profession needed. He makes it a point to reach out to every newly elected president to welcome them to the position and offer his support and mentorship. He has also celebrated the accomplishments of many CRNAs by submitting numerous award nominations on their behalf – many of whom were the chosen nominee for the award!
Hailing from Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Downey is retired from his more than 50 years as a nurse anesthetist. As he is unable to travel to Boston to accept the award due to health issues, Wilma Gillis, CRNA, APNP, from Patrick’s home state of Wisconsin, will accept the award on Downey’s behalf.
