Maj Adrienne Hartgerink, CRNA, MSN, USAF, NC, is pictured carrying an 80-pound backpack filled with anesthesia equipment while she was serving in the Philippines from July to November 2002 during Operation Enduring Freedom (as part of a Mobile Field Surgical Team from Langley Air Force Base, Va). Hartgerink provided anesthesia to both military personnel and civilians injured as a result of a bombing by the Abu Sayyaf, a radical Islamic separatist group. Her husband, LCDR Brad Hartgerink, CRNA, MSN, NC, USN, is currently serving on the USNS Comfort in the Persian Gulf providing anesthesia for US servicemen, Iraqi prisoners of war, and civilians. The Hartgerinks are both graduates of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Graduate School of Nursing, Program in Anesthesia Nursing, Silver Spring, Md.
