Standards for Nurse Anesthesia Practice

The Standards for Nurse Anesthesia Practice provide a foundation for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and healthcare organizations for safe, high-quality, patient-centered anesthesia care.  This revision updates the standards last revised in 2013. 

To guide your review and response to the Standards, please consider the following:

  • Are these Standards reflective of current practice? If not, what other principles need to be added to the document?
  • Will the Standards aid you in fulfilling your obligations as a CRNA?
  • Will the Standards help you improve any areas of your practice?
  • Will the Standards help your facility understand the obligations of CRNAs?
  • Are there any unintended consequences that may occur as a result of this document? 
  • Are there any Standards that you feel are not necessary to include or are missing in this document? If so, please explain your reasoning.   

Guidelines for Core Clinical Privileges for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists

The Guidelines for Core Clinical Privileges for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists define the scope of procedures and activities CRNAs may perform at a given institution based on verification of their education and experience.

Please submit your comments to practice@aana.com. Include the line number when making comments. Phrase changes as statements, rather than questions, and suggest alternative language. Provide a rationale for changes and cite literature or other evidence to support the change.
