Margie Jean Rickey, 91, of Decatur, Ill., passed away Thursday, July 10, 2019, at Hickory Point Christian Village, Forsyth.
She was born December 20, 1927, in Taylorville, Ill., as the first of four daughters born to Paul Revere and Nona Bernice (Sneller) Beggs. She graduated from Decatur High School, Decatur and Macon County Hospital’s School of Nursing, St. John’s Hospital School of Anesthesia in Springfield, Ill., and St. Francis University in Peoria, Ill. She married Clarence Eugene “Gene” Rickey on October 26, 1956 in Decatur, Ill. He passed away February 12, 1997.
Margie was employed at Decatur Memorial Hospital as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) for more than 40 years. During that time, she served as the first CRNA director for the hospital’s new nurse anesthesia program from 1965-1968.
Margie loved to travel, go camping, her cats, cooking, and the Chicago Cubs. She volunteered for hospice after her retirement, she enjoyed her Four Wind Winnies and her Red Hats Society Club, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her three sons, Jeffrey Rickey, Matthew Rickey and Lance (Nancy) Rickey, all of Decatur; her two sisters, Betty Horton of Tower Hill, Ill., and Beverly Ewing of Sullivan, Ill.; and a multitude of greatly loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; her sister Hazel Cloyd; two sisters-in-law, Florine Corley and Virginia Webber; and five brothers-in-law, Maurice Corley, Edward Ewing, Earl Horton, Bill Webber and Gene Cloyd.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Margie will be 12 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2019, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Yoga 4 Cats, the nurse anesthesia program at Decatur Memorial Hospital, or any animal shelter of the donor’s choice.
