Research Discussion Forum

In an effort to engage members in research, the AANA Research Department has created the Research Discussion Forum.  The purpose of the Research Discussion Forum is to provide a platform for those individuals interested in research to delve more deeply into research related topics and methodology as it applies to the art and science of anesthesia, health policy, health service, and evidenced based practice.  This forum will be monitored by research content moderators.

I have been a dedicated faculty member at Georgetown University for the last 15 years, and a researcher since 2005.  As a Summer Genetics Institute Fellow at the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) and as a physiology PhD student I learned numerous bench science methodologies such as Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), Real Time Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-QPCR), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), and animal research and handling. My current research has been dedicated to studying the physiologic and biobehavioral mechanisms underlying acupuncture’s effects on stress and pain model in the rat.  I have been involved in acute and chronic pain management for over a decade, practicing as a nurse anesthetist and a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) trained acupuncturist. Finally, I have presented Nationally and Internationally on acupuncture and stress/pain, and my research has been highlighted in numerous journals including National Geographic, Time and Huffington Post.
