The Center to Champion Nursing in America – a joint initiative of AARP, the AARP Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation – is addressing the growing nurse and nursing faculty shortage that threatens access to healthcare and quality of care across our nation. AANA is a member of the Champion Nursing Council of national nursing organizations.

American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
Formed in 1985, the Academy, as the only full service organization for nurse practitioners of all specialties, has steadily expanded services to meet its mission to: serve as a resource for nurse practitioners, their patients and other healthcare consumers; promote excellence in practice, education and research; provide legislative leadership; advance health policy; establish healthcare standards; and act as advocate for access to quality, cost effective healthcare.

American College of Nurse Practitioners
Founded in 1993, the American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) is a national non-profit membership organization headquartered in Washington, DC. British Anaesthetic & Recovery Nurses Association (BARNA)
Although nurse anaesthetists do not practice in the UK, BARNA has steadily supported the development of this role in this country and is represented on the present NWWA (New Ways of Working in Anaesthesia) project to pilot non-physician provision of anaesthesia in the UK as part of the NHS modernisation programme.

National Institute of Nursing Research
The National Institute of Nursing Research supports clinical and basic research to establish a scientific basis for the care of individuals across the life span--from management of patients during illness and recovery to the reduction of risks for disease and disability, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, promoting quality of life in those with chronic illness, and care for individuals at the end of life. This research may also include families within a community context. According to its broad mandate, the Institute seeks to understand and ease the symptoms of acute and chronic illness, to prevent or delay the onset of disease or disability or slow its progression, to find effective approaches to achieving and sustaining good health, and to improve the clinical settings in which care is provided.
