Community Service
January 20, 2013
On Sunday, January 20, 2013, the CRNAs from Sinai-Grace and Detroit Receiving Hospitals kicked off National Nurse Anesthetists Week in a big way. The motto for this year’s event was "Anesthesia kids, giving back to the community." Accompanied by their children, the CRNAs provided a catered meal and a generous cash donation to the Detroit Rescue Mission Genesis House. This agency provides housing and assistance for underprivileged women in the City of Detroit who are striving to return to work, while providing for their children in a safe and loving environment.
This event was coordinated and catered by Gwen Lewis, CRNA. Gwen's intention for this year’s activity was to provide the CRNAs’ kids with the opportunity to understand the importance of community service. A chicken dinner was served with all the fixings. Hot dogs were available for the children and the servers. In addition to cash donations, toiletries, clothing and nonperishable food items also were provided.
The Genesis House staff and residents were very grateful for the contribution.
Both hospitals are part of the Detroit Medical Center.
