Midwestern University Nurse Anesthesia Students Serve the Community

In conjunction with National Nurse Anesthetists Week, the Class of 2015 served the community by participating in the Scottsdale Healthcare Fit City event on Jan. 25, 2014. Twenty-eight student registered nurse anesthetists gave four-eight hours of service during the event. Fit City promotes fitness for community members through 15 exercise programs and promotes healthly eating habits. The nurse anesthesia students modeled fitness in a variety of exercise programs at the day-long event. A unique feature of the day challenged participants and volunteers to set a Zumba record. In addition to serving as participant volunteers, the Scottsdale Healthcare organization assisted extensively with set-up and clean-up for each of the fitness stations. While the aim of the service event was fitness, students also had a chance to share information regarding the nurse anesthesia profession.
