The April 2017 issue of the AANA Journal contains an advertisement from Tri-anim (Ambu® ACTion™ Block Pain Pumps) which references “the anesthesiologist” instead of “the CRNA” when referring to pain management procedures. Tri-anim is a loyal advertiser in the Journal, and the AANA team is working with them to update the ad copy for online and future print placement. AANA policy related to paid advertising provides that advertisers focus on the specialty of nurse anesthesia, including the terminology used, such as CRNA or nurse anesthetist. The purpose of the policy is to highlight members’ knowledge, skills, and strengths, while delivering safe and effective anesthesia care. The AANA team and the advertising sales agency will redouble efforts to ensure that such errors do not recur.
