The Essentials of Obstetric Analgesia/Anesthesia Workshop
will address clinical applications of obstetric analgesia/anesthesia. An excellent complement to the Spinal and Epidural Workshop
, this workshop includes a lecture format that will cover normal and abnormal physiology of pregnancy, pharmacology, and techniques. Case presentations will enhance lecture material. Time will be allotted for group discussion of representative clinical cases.
- Physiological adaptions during pregnancy
- Local anesthetics and adjunct drugs for epidural regional anesthesia
- Anesthetic management of the complicated obstetric epidural
- Anesthetic management for the parturient with placenta previa, abruption, uterine rupture, uterine atony, and abnormal implantation
- Anesthetic management for the parturient with obstetric co-morbidities
- Sterile techniques and timely recognition of systematic infection associated with epidural anesthesia
- Clinical management conundrums encountered by participants
