Award of Appreciation, 1970

Florence A. McQuillen, CRNA

The remainder of the evening was the occasion to honor Florence A. McQuillen, Director Emeritus and Consultant to the Board. Honorary membership in the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists was presented to Miss McQuillen by Miss Gaffey. Representing the past presidents, Miss Lucy Richards, who offered the position of Executive Director to Miss McQuillen in 1947, presented a gift from the past presidents.
 
The following states and assemblies contributed to a purse for the personal use of Miss McQuillen: Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Western States, New England, Tri-State, Southeastern, and Middle Atlantic.
 
The following states made a contribution to the Library Fund in honor of Miss McQuillen: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Coalinga, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
 
The following persons were among those who made a personal gift to Miss McQuillen: Martha Lundgaard, registrants in the Parliamentarian’s Conference, Aline Durnin, Nora Allen, and Lucretia Engler. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Brown made a gift to the Victor Bowen Foundation in honor of Miss McQuillen.
 
Mrs. Miraim Hagy, representing the Puerto Rico Association, presented a plaque to Miss McQuillen – “Florence McQuillen, Profesional Distinguida y Amiga Sincera con Admiración y Respecto, Asociación de Enfermeras Anestesistas de Puerto Rico, 16 de Septiembre de 1970.”
 
Mrs. Lily Grubb, Chairman of the Carolinas-Virginias Assembly, presented a Resolution of Appreciation to Miss McQuillen. The resolution outlined some of the programs that were developed during Miss McQuillen’s tenure as Executive Director. The plaque was exquisitely hand lettered and was signed by President Vada Tallant, CRNA, and Secretary Joseph Bondranko, CRNA.
 
The final presentation during the evening was an Award of Appreciation and Citation from the AANA which was presented by Miss Gaffey: “Presented by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists to Florence A. McQuillen, as a Citation and Award of Appreciation for her dedicated services to this association and her fellow members as Executive Director from March 1, 1948 to March 31, 19870. Presented September 16, 1970, and Signed by Virginia A. Gaffey President.”
