The AANA Foundation Presents...

Kathy Doores

k_doores.jpgMy name is Kathy Doores and I have been an active member of the AANA for the past 5 years.  My husband, Brent, and I have been happily married for 11 years and have been blessed with two beautiful daughters, Annemarie (age 6) and Meredith (age 4.5). I was born and raised in the west St. Louis suburb of Chesterfield, MO.  As a young woman, I was very active in show choir, band, softball and orchestra.  After graduating from Parkway Central High School in 1996, I attended Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois.  During my time at Millikin, I was a double major in Nursing and Vocal Music Performance with an opera emphasis.  In 2000, I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  At that time, I accepted my first position working in the emergency department at Decatur Memorial Hospital until 2003. In the fall of 2003, my husband and I moved to York, PA and I began working at York Hospital as a scrub and circulating nurse in the operating room.  In 2005, while working in an open heart ICU, I was accepted into Anesthesia School at Drexel University.  I graduated with honors in 2008 and have been employed with Anesthesia Associates of York ever since.  I have been singing for as long as I can remember.  Someone once asked my mother if I was a good singer and her reply was, “I don’t really know…but she sure sings loud!”  I took private voice lessons from 8th-12th grades and decided on a vocal performance major in college.  With pressure from my parents to choose a major that would ensure post graduate employment, I decided that nursing would be my “back up” career.  What a GREAT “back up” career it has been!  Since graduating from college, I have performed on the big stage several times enjoying every moment.  Singing the National Anthem in 2007 at the AANA opening ceremony in Denver was an awesome experience!  I hope you enjoy the show!
