At the 1999 AANA Annual Meeting, 41 anesthesia history enthusiasts gathered to consider establishing a history and archives advocacy group. At least 35 others who were unable to attend indicated their strong interest. Evan Koch, CRNA, MSN, AANA Archives Liaison, spoke to the group about expanding the role of the AANA Archives-Library and the need for member support. Two days later, Evan Koch requested and received endorsement from the AANA Board of Directors for the AANA History & Archives Society.
Since that time the AANA History & Archives Society has met yearly during the AANA Annual Meeting. Recent meetings have featured members presenting their current research on nurse anesthesia history. The Society has approximately 100 members.

The History & Archives Society will hold its yearly meeting at the AANA Annual Meeting in Seattle on Saturday, August 7 at 10:00 a.m. Leslie Jeter, CRNA, MSNA, and Mary Flister, CRNA, BSN, will give a presentation on Rosalie McDonald, an AANA past-president (1942-1944) from Georgia.
