CPIA Student Member Representatives 

The Council for Public Interest in Anesthesia (CPIA) is charged with the responsibility to address issues that affect the public in matters of nurse anesthesia practice, including patient education and advocacy. The CPIA is a multidisciplinary body of individuals that includes nurse anesthetists and public representatives. The Council also acts as the autonomous appellate body for the credentialing councils of nurse anesthetists and their educational programs. The CPIA: 

  • Advocates the public interest in anesthesia safety
  • Provides patient safety education and advocacy
  • Facilitates communication with appropriate medical, nursing, and health-related groups to promote anesthesia safety to the public
  • Recommends professional materials of quality assurance and risk management to CRNAs
  • Serves as the Appellate Review Body
  • Publishes the Quality Review in Anesthesia (QRIA)

Patient Safety Education

From a public perspective, the Council monitors social and healthcare trends involving public safety, quality care, risk management and practitioner wellness. The CPIA recommends AANA actions to provide public education regarding anesthesia safety and quality of care.
