AANA Wellness Activities—Taking Care of Yourself and Others

This year’s AANA Health and Wellness program activities and educational sessions will encourage attendees to help bring positive change to their communities—and the world—as well as to their own lives. “We want to highlight the AANA’s commitment to member wellness and social responsibility by raising money for the Lifebox Project at the annual Walk/Run and in the exhibit hall, and the presentation by Patti Bright, CRNA, MS, on Monday afternoon in what we hope will inspire attendees to take care of themselves while reaching out to others,” said AANA Wellness Specialist Julie Rice, BA.

Walk/Run

In addition to benefiting a good cause, the Walk/Run on Monday, Aug. 6., 2012, will wend its way through a world class flat 5K course with spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the San Francisco skyline.

The $30 event fee includes a t-shirt. See meeting registration to sign up. Onsite registration will be available if the maximum is not exceeded before July 31. If you have already registered for the event, be sure to visit the Walk/Run check-in table located across from the registration desk for shirt pick-up and information on bus departures at 5:15 a.m. to ride to Crissy Field for the 5K.

Walk/Run Chair Patti Bright, CRNA, MS, welcomes all to join us in this fun and healthy activity, and she even has some running tips for you on the AANA website.

Our thanks go to walk/run 2012 Elite Sponsor: CNA.

CRNAs Going the Distance

All proceeds from the Walk/Run after expenses will be donated to the Lifebox Project, a not-for-profit organization that is saving lives and improves the safety and quality of surgical care in low-resource countries by donating pulse oximeters. The AANA has adopted the cause of this valuable organization to ensure that no patient dies because a pulse oximeter and basic safety checks were not used during surgery.

Join us as CRNAs go the distance changing lives, communities, and the world. Another opportunity to donate will be a collection box at the Health and Wellness Booth 327 in the Exhibit Hall.

Informal Walk/Run

All are welcome to join an informal walking or running group on Saturday through Wednesday during the Annual Meeting at 5:45 a.m. Just meet in the Marriott Marquis lobby about 15 minutes before to join a group of like-minded colleagues.

AANA Health and Wellness Booth

Along with a donation box, a Lifebox pulse oximeter will be on display at the Wellness booth number 327in the Exhibit Hall, Sunday through Tuesday. Each year the booth provides a measure of fun along with important information on health and wellness, and it is always the site of “pandemonium,” according to Rice. Be sure to stop by and see how you measure up to your colleagues by competing in the annual push-up or sit-up contest!  If you’re looking for a relaxing break, instead of action, take a turn with one of the foot massage machines.
