Annual Meeting attendees “rocked on” at the Annual Party with a Purpose, held on Sunday night, August 5, in the Moscone Center, San Francisco.
Each year, the AANA partners with Baxter Healthcare to raise proceeds for a charitable organization in the host city of its Annual Meeting. In years past, “Party with a Purpose” has generated thousands of dollars and scores of donated items for previously selected charities in other cities.
For the second year in a row, the party benefited Homes for our Troops. Homes for Our Troops is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 2004. The organization is strongly committed to helping those who have selflessly given to our country and have returned home with serious disabilities and injuries since Sept. 11, 2001. It assists severely injured servicemen and servicewomen and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor and coordinating the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently. Nurse anesthetists have been the main providers of anesthesia care to U.S. military personnel on the front lines since WWI, including current conflicts in the Middle East. “Supporting Homes for Our Troops as the recipient for this year’s Party with a Purpose is important to our organization because the AANA history is deeply rooted in military involvement. The AANA and nurse anesthetists take great pride in providing anesthesia care to the service men and women who sacrifice so much for our freedom,” said AANA President Debra Malina, CRNA, DNSc, MBA. “What better way to say thank you for all you’ve done and welcome home than to give money to an organization that helps veterans and active duty soldiers purchase a home.”
