Maria van Pelt, CRNA, MS, MSN, will present the Tenth Annual Jan Stewart Lecture
, “The Aftermath of Perioperative Catastrophes: Our (CRNAs) Voices are Finally Heard!” The talk will be from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday in the Grand Ballroom
and will describe the impact a perioperative catastrophe can have on a CRNA’s well-being and ways of coping that are utilized when an event occurs. Van Pelt, who works at Massachusetts General Hospital, focuses her research on the aftermath of perioperative catastrophes and their impact on patient safety and provider wellness.
Attendees interested in van Pelt’s lecture are invited to bring their lunches and attend an open forum preceding the talk from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. on Sunday in Jamaica A. Lynn Reede, CRNA, DNP, MBA, AANA senior director, Professional Practice, will help moderate the discussion.
Maria van Pelt has served on the AANA Wellness Committee and was named the 2012 AANA Foundation Doctoral Fellow. She is currently a PhD candidate at Villanova University.
